WiMAX Development in Asia July 12-18

Malaysian broadband service provider REDtone Telecommunications launched its WiMAX service in Miri, Sarawak on July 15, according to Malaysian state-run news agency Bernama. REDtone has a 2.3GHz WiMAX license for Sarawak and Sabah and plans to focus its WiMAX expansion in Miri on the five populous regions of Jalan Tanjong, Yi Hai Hai, Piasau, Lutong, and Senadin. The company's main target market includes business districts, commercial centers, industrial parks, and shopping premises.

In the state of Sarawak, REDtone's WiMAX service is available in Kuching as well as Miri. In Sabah, REDtone currently offers WiMAX service in Kota Kinabalu while planning to launch similar service in Sandakan and Tawau soon.
